We are all about celebrating Valentines Day at Peekaboo Beans! How can you argue with a holiday that is all about spreading the love? So, in honour of the holiday tomorrow, we've created a Kindness Challenge just for you. We want to encourage you to spread some LOVE and kindness within your community this weekend! Challenge yourself and see how many ways you can spread some love this Valentines Day weekend by checking off as many of the activities below as possible. Spring 2015

We've been dreaming of warmer days over here on the west coast, so what better time to release some new spring arrivals! 

This tropicana inspired collection will have you daydreaming of palm trees, pineapples and breezy beach play dates. Juicy details that are fresh and fun will have you going bananas for every last piece.

Our designers were feeling full of colour and vibrant with ideas while relishing in island delights and paradise pizzaz. Rich saturations of Fuschia, Violet, Grass Green, Paradise Blue, and Aqua harness the island vibe! Snazzy prints add an element of play to this collection. Get back to nature with tropical creatures, sweet and sassy toucans, pink flamingos and sneaky iguanas.

By that’s not all! Peekaboo Beans doesn’t do “just stripes”. We add a playful twist: a custom designed, abstract zebra print, creating a playful mix and match option.

The Tropicana collection is a balance of geometric prints and stripes that are truly full of zest! You will go coconuts for Tropicana!

The FUNdamental collection is designed in the same PB fabrics you already love! What makes Peekaboo Beans’ fabric so great for play? We use the same growing and soil conditions for all of our cotton so that the quality of our fabric is consistent throughout each collection. Our yarn is spun into a very fine thread and is then densely woven to create a soft and cozy fabric. The top layer of our fabric is then singed to eliminate loose threads and pilling. Dropping a Holiday LOVE BOMB on this deserving family!

Gary Chapman, after thirty years of serving as a marriage counselor, was convinced that there are five basic love languages -- five ways to express love emotionally.  He believes that each person has a primary love language that we must learn to speak if we want that person to feel loved.  

In his book, "The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate,"  a 'Love Language' test was developed, which I took awhile back to better understand how I need to feel loved.  I recommend taking this test online because it provides a deeper insight into both you and your family members. For example, if your spouse's love language is physical touch, then they feel loved by gestures such as hugs and holding hands, not necessarily from words of affirmation.  By learning to speak someones love language, it can improve communication and foster stronger emotional bonds.  My love language is 'gifting.' Finding the perfect gift for someone brings me such joy and when I receive a thoughtful present, it touches my heart.

My heart is full when I can give and since this is at the core of who I am, I've incorporated it into the culture of my business.  At the Peekaboo Beans Playground we all have a secret admirer which means each and every one of us receives random gestures of kindness throughout the year, be it small gifts, notes, or a cup of tea.  When we do our 'reveal' every quarter it's great fun to hear the conversations that ensue regarding how we tried to maintain our anonymity.  

In the spirit of gift giving, we at Peekaboo Beans launched our Holiday Love Bomb earlier this month. We realize that this time of year can be stressful for families that are facing daunting challenges, so we were excited for the opportunity to give back to those in-need, in our local communities. Thank you to all of  our VIPBs and Play Stylists who nominated these very deserving families. We are excited to have chosen a very deserving family and have provided them with a play ready Peekaboo Beans wardrobe, amazing quality toys from Raspberry Kids (www.raspberrykids.com) and organic skin care products from Skoah (www.skoah.com) and for Mom... a digital camera to capture precious family moments all year round.

Tools for a playful holiday season

With the holidays fast approaching we are all starting to think about our never ending to-do lists.  As the weeks turn into days, the days turn into hours and the hours turn into minutes... Christmas will be here before you can blink twice.  And if you are a Mom (or Dad), like all us dedicated hard working Moms at Peekaboo Beans, we might need a little extra help keeping us all on track and playfully organized over the holiday season.  With so much to do, our fabulous marketing department created this wonderfully helpful printable that lets you keep track of all the holiday to-dos in one handy spot.  

We have created it so that you can choose from the list on the side and plunk in the tasks/baking dates/wrapping dates/play dates all according to your own schedule.  We lovingly grilled all our Momma Beans at the Peekaboo Beans Playground (our head office) and asked them what are some of the regular activities and must dos that are always on their list during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. We then compiled the most common tasks and created this playful planning calendar.  

Remember though... don't feel like you have to fill up every single day... we must leave time for PLAY!

Rachel Rainbow for Peekaboo Beans - Winter 2014

We are so excited to have Rachel Rainbow, our very own Peekaboo Beans Assistant Designer, design an exclusive line of Rachel Rainbow pieces again for Peekaboo Beans' winter 2014 collection!

A bit about Rachel Rainbow:

Rachel Rainbow is handmade in Vancouver, BC, featuring hand painted wooden beads, handmade tassels and quality brass magnetic closures and charms. We chose magnetic closures to promote independent dress-up while bracelets feature an adjustable tie to ensure the perfect fit. Rachel Rainbow was born as a creative outlet and is created for pretending.

The Rachel Rainbow pieces this season have been custom designed to
coordinate with the Peekaboo Beans Winter collection. From the colour
pallet to the whimsical butterfly charms these necklaces and bracelets are
the perfect match to seamlessly accessorize your holiday Beans! 

We asked Rachel to give us an insiders peek into her process of designing the latest pieces for Peekaboo Beans. Check it out below!

"I like to work from simple materials - cotton embroidery floss for the handmade tassels, nylon cording for the necklace string, and raw wooden beads that I transform with custom mixed colours. I love the freedom to transform these into something that speaks to what Rachel Rainbow is about. For this collection I sourced gold plated brass butterfly charms to tie the necklaces into the theme. This was my first venture into charms for Rachel Rainbow, which has definitely opened some doors for my new work. I also incorporated gold accents throughout in the nylon cording and tassels. All the colours in this collection of Rachel Rainbow necklaces are inspired by the Winter 2014 collection." 

"All the beads in this collection are wood and colours are mixed and hand painted by me. This collaboration had a total of 900 hand painted wood beads! I created a very organized assembly line using toothpicks and a long piece of wood to line up the beads to dry. Each bead requires 2-3 coats of paint and 2 coats of varnish."
